Zitsa is a village in Ioannina Prefecture. It is known mainly for its wine. It is built on a semi-mountainous site on the left bank of Kalamas River, 25 km west of Ioannina. Zitsa was established at the end of Medieval times, possibly before or after the beginning of 15th century. The first reference to Zitsa is made in the Ioannina Chronicle concerning events that took place in 1382 but it is unclear whether it is referred to as a defense position or an already founded village.
