128 Videos

Next to the estuary of Acheron we find Ammoudia a beautiful tourist destination for the summer season.

According to the historical tradition, the area was inhabited by the Kimerioi. At the cape at the northern end of the bay of Ammoudia there was a lighthouse which for centuries guided the visitors to the Necromantio

On July 16, 1822, the battle of Splantza took place with unpleasant results for the Greeks. The village was set on fire and looted on August 12, 1943 by the Germans, with the result that the inhabitants left the village and went to Parga.

Nowadays Ammoudia is an important tourist resort with a large number of visitors every year. It has a variety of accommodation hotels, taverns and a picturesque harbor near the mouth of Acheron.

The wider area of Ammoudia together with the Acheron delta still belongs to the Network of Natura 2000 protected areas.
