Athamanio is built in an amphitheatrically at the foot of Tzoumerka Mountains which belong to the Pindos range. The peak where it is located has an altitude of 2393m. It was inhabited by the Athamanian race. The name of the race belongs to King Athamanta who came from Orchomenos in Viotia Prefecture.

He settled down in the area and ruled over it. Two plane trees dominate the stone paved square. One of them is over 100 years old. There are cafes and restaurants where you can taste tsipouro (a Greek alcoholic drink).

A little further up the road we find the stony fountain under the Church of St Nikolas. St Kyriaki Church, the watermill located near the Cultural Association building, scattered stony bridges and the feeling of vastness when we reach the highest spots of the village complete our visit to Athamanio.
