Greek civil war Battlefields Part I

128 Videos

The bloody battles of the civil war in the area of Gramos took place on steep, rugged slopes. In places where the human presence did not exist before. Some of these blood-stained battlefields are depicted in the five-minute video. Places such as the peak of Kiafa, the peak of Grammos, Arrenes the alpine lakes Skirtsi and Moutsalia etc.

Two of the bloodiest battlefields were Petra Mouka and Haros

Petra Mouka is a location on Mount Grammos, which was used as the headquarters of the “Government of the Mountains” of the Democratic Army of Greece but also periodically of its General Headquarters during the Greek Civil War.

Charos is an emblematic location on the “mountain of hatred”, where perhaps the bloodiest page of the Civil War was written. The  sight of the ravine is awe-inspiring, especially when some of the fiercest battles took place at its edge, between its defenders, fighters of the “Democratic Army of Greece” and the “National Army”. On the cliff of Xaros there is a tombstone in the memory of three guerrillas in the face of the danger of being captured and falling into the cliff.
